Planting and Berry Picking

Early summer on Ella’s farm was always busy. A wide variety of crops were planted every year. Ella had help from her brother Bartlett, who lived across the road, and from her boarder, Mr. Wood. Over the years, the rhythm of Ella’s life remained fairly constant, as seen by the following diary entries.

A planter such as the one below made the planting easier. Enough produce needed to be planted to last the year. Note that this planter was made in Enfield, NH.

Along with planting crops, Ella took advantage of various berries that grew in her area.

The following longer diary entry is typical, although Ella seldom complained. She was 41. Can you imagine tackling all these projects in one day?
