Have you ever wondered about how skiing became so popular in Norwich? Did you know that Norwich athletes have brought home 3 olympic medals and since 1984 has put an athlete on every US winter olympics team except one?

 

In this video, Sarah Rooker shares old photos and stories from Norwich’s ski hills and the early Ford Sayre program. Mike, Joe, and Jim Holland then chime in, sharing stories and photographs of their Olympic experiences.

Mike Holland was a five time U.S. national champion. Holland competed in the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Joe Holland was the leading U.S. Nordic combined skier in the late 1980s to early 1990s (4 time national champion) and competed in the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France. Holland also competed at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Jim competed in the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France and the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway.
