This “Indian Tank” once belonged to the Norwich Fire Department. It could be worn as a backpack and used out in the field.  The 5-gallon tank of water is connected to a short hose and hand pump. It allows for quick, mobile, and directed fire fighting capabilities even when far from a water source. Click to see a video of a modern tank in action.

You can see this Indian tank sitting under the hoses on the fire engine above.

Each year the Marion Cross first grade visits NHS to learn about community helpers. Here Jonathan Streeter is talking with them about how firefighters fought fires in the past–they are always fascinated by the Indian tank. They eventually act out a fire brigade.

Thank you, Norwich Fire Department, for all you do!
