In the 19th century, the Norwich Landscape was dotted with one-room schoolhouses. They were a testament to the dispersed nature of settlement and to the value placed on education.

This exhibit explores Norwich’s one-room schools. A hands-on schoolroom is open for visitors to try out the desks, write on slates, and look through old schoolbooks. Norwich’s 20 schoolhouses and stories about the conduct of the children and condition of the buildings are on display.
